Ingvild Bode and Katherine Chandler will present HuMach research at the coffee chat on human-machine interaction in the context of military AI. The virtual coffee chat is organised by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR). It is open to all cohorts of the UNIDIR Women in AI Fellowship, an annual in-person capacity-building exercises for women diplomats on AI.
This coffee chat will examine how various forms of human-machine interaction in relation to lethal autonomous weapon systems (LAWS) and AI-based decision support systems (AI DSS) shape the exercise of human control. The chat will explore how human control, and by extension interpretations of principles of international humanitarian law (IHL) and international human rights law, are potentially transformed by human-machine interaction when using AI in the military domain.
The coffee chat is followed by a Q&A with the audience, moderated by Shimona Mohan (UNIDIR).
