Workshop at the United Nations
11 July 2025
Ingvild Bode and Katherine Chandler presented HuMach research at the workshop “Re-Thinking Human-Machine Interaction and AI in the Military Domain”, which took place at the United Nations in Geneva. The workshop was organised by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), where Ingvild Bode and Katherine Chandler completed a fellowship in July 2025.
The workshop featured a presentation where Ingvild Bode and Katherine Chandler examined how various forms of human-machine interaction in relation to lethal autonomous weapon systems (LAWS) and AI-based decision support systems (AI DSS) shape the exercise of human control.
The presentation was followed by discussant comments from Heidi Kandiel (ICRC) and Eric Mongelard (OHCHR), as well as Q&A with the audience.

Anna Nadibaidze was a guest on the Center for War Studies’ podcast, the WarPod. In this episode, Anna Nadibaidze explains the concept of Responsible AI, highlights critiques, and looks to the future of governing AI in the military domain as well as her own research as part of the HuMach project.
